Build A Testimony

December Assignment

New to the school? Read this first.

Each month, the assignment is

  • to soak 10-15 times,
  • to edify, exhort, or comfort 20 people, and
  • to keep a notebook, jotting down highlights -- what you hear from God as you soak, and what you experience as you reach out to people.

For December, I'm taking a break and won't be writing any new materials. Instead, I'm leaving the November assignment posted; it centers on building a testimony by reaching into heaven and receiving something that will make a tangible impact on the earth.

Last month, we introduced a new way of doing the monthly assignment: the Scavenger Hunt. For each of the three topics, look for specific actions you can take to let God build a testimony in your life.

Here is how to do the scavenger hunt:

  • If you can get six of the ten items done each month, you're doing well. Think of 60% as an A and anything more as an A+.
  • Do at least one item on the list every week. It's easier to keep a steady pace than to let it all pile up at the end of the month.
  • Let God rewrite the assignment if He chooses to. He may tell you, "Not this, but that. If so, the assignment has done its job -- it has helped you hear from Him. Do His assignment, not mine.
  • Expect to bear fruit in three ways: (1) God may use you to touch someone else's life; (2) you may realize God is making you more like Jesus, and (3) you will often learn something and get to know Jesus better.
  • Look for at least one other person to partner with in the scavenger hunt. You'll have more fun with it and get more out of it if you share the adventure with a friend.

The goal this month is to generate a testimony.

Miracle Lifestyle / Build a Testimony

1) Soaking. Get into God's manifest presence as often as you can -- not just in church, but also in your own personal soaking times. Expect Him to impart His compassion and anointing to you.

2) Soaking. Build faith by thanking God for what He's already done in your life, and for influences He has provided that move you towards Him.

3) Soaking. Ask God to lead you to people you can edify, exhort, or comfort. Identify at least one person He has led you to specifically.

4) Ministry. Build someone else's faith. When you need encouragement, find someone else who needs it even more than you do, and give all you can.

5) Ministry. Read Romans 8 and find at least 3 things that are encouraging. Then draw from your list as you share with people or pray for them.

6) Ministry. Identify the five things you need most in your personal life. Pray for them daily, and let scripture shape your prayers. See how many of the five items will be provided by the end of the month.

7) Ministry. Ask your pastor to list the five neediest people in your church. Pray for them daily, and wait for testimonies to come in.

8) Testimony. To edify someone, find someone you can share a recent testimony with.

9) Testimony. Find a partner who will do the assignment with you. Encourage one another by trading testimonies.

10) Testimony. Post your testimony as a comment on one of the blog pages -- find the address below.

Prophetic Song / Things To Look For

1) Soaking. Let the peace of God pour into you as you linger in His presence. Let God clear out your agitation and striving.

2) Soaking. Soak without an instrument, and let God give you a tune or musical fragment that you can use later.

3) Soaking. Get into a spontaneous flow of lyrics as you sing spontaneously in your personal devotions. Let God give you new revelation as you sing.

4) Ministry. Catch people on your worship team doing something right -- look for a strong hunger for God, or signs that a new anointing is starting to flow.

5) Ministry. Get into a spontaneous flow of words as you worship, a flow that gives you a new revelation of Jesus as you sing.

6) Ministry. Reach for God's manifest presence as you sing a new song to Him. Often, this will be a rich sense of peace. Break through personally, and let the anointing spill over into the church.

7) Ministry. As you do your errands day by day, sing a blessing over your community when you are in the car. Sing songs that command God's light to shine in the darkness.

8) Testimony. Share your experiences in prophetic song with other musicians, and ask them to tell you about the richest experiences they have had in worship. Honor them as they give their testimonies.

9) Testimony. After times of spontaneous worship in church, get people to share what God has done in their hearts. Ask who has received God's peace; see who has gotten a glimpse of Jesus; find who has been set free from anxiety, fear, or something else.

10) Testimony. Post your testimony about prophetic song as a comment on the blog page -- find the address below.

Culture Shapers / Let Heaven Make An Impact

1) Soaking. Seek God's manifest presence as you work. Play worship music in the background as you create.

2) Soaking. Ask God to show you one main idea that will make your marketing more effective -- out of the many steps you'll need to take in coming years, which step should you take next?

3) Soaking. Ask God for an idea for a new technique, something you can experiment with.

4) Art. Use the new technique God gives you, (see item 3) and create something experimental you can give away -- to bless someone else.

5) Art. Identify an artist who has been a good influence on you, and send a card, letter, or email to express your appreciation.

6) Art. Include marketing in your work. Accomplish the thing God shows you as you soak -- see item 2.

7) Art. Stoke your creativity by using a medium you don't usually use. For instance, if you are a painter, write a few poems; if you are an actress, fill a sketchbook with drawings.

8) Testimony. Share a testimony with another artist. Tell how God has given you ideas for your work. Then ask them how they get their ideas, and affirm and honor them as they tell their story.

9) Testimony. In your church, share what God has taught you as you engage in Christian art. Keep it short; you probably can't tell everything in one day.

10) Testimony. Post your testimony on the blog page -- find the address below -- and tell how God has given you ideas for your art, how He has helped you get your work into the marketplace, and what ministry opportunities have spun off from your art.

Finally – When You Send Testimonies

Post testimonies on the blog -- 250 words or less -- and one or two lines can be long enough. Share highlights of what God is telling you when you soak, and what He is doing through you as you bless and encourage people.
