Why God Is Calling ArtistsBy Stan Smith Artists of every kind -- writers, musicians, actors, dancers, painters, sculptors, and any other kind of artist -- play a large role in spiritual warfare. Paul wrote two main passages about spiritual warfare. In Ephesians 6, he commands us to put on the whole armor of God so we can wrestle against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in heavenly places. In II Corinthians 10, he notes that warfare is mighty in pulling down strongholds in the mind -- arguments, reasonings, and imaginations. In other words, prayer and intercession should touch the heavens to release new thought patterns in a city, a region, or a culture. Artists are uniquely positioned to capture the imagination, and therefore the Holy Spirit can use them to bring transformation. The world-rulers of darkness have used the arts and the media to lock the world in deception, in moral ambiguity, and in decadence. God isn't just looking into darkness, sighing about how terrible it is. He is looking for people through whom He can proclaim, "Let there be light." Jesus has paid a terrible price to overturn the hosts of darkness. Now He is risen from the dead, enthroned in the heavens, and alive in His people here on earth. He wants to give artists sounds and images that will capture the imaginations of our generation, turning them from darkness to light. If you are an artist of any kind, God wants to use you. He will inspire and anoint your work. He will guide you into effectiveness. He made no mistake when He put artistic abilities in your DNA. Give your life to Him, and trust Him to bring heaven to earth through you -- and your art . |
